Gods group thoughts for 8/14/2012 “Filled to Overflowing”

(Part 1 of 10)

John 4:14“but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst. But the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life.”  (NKJV)

The opening scripture has Jesus speaking to the Samaritan woman at the well… Jesus used the analogy of becoming a Christian, as being filled with living water…John 7:38He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.”  (NKJV)

Way back in the Old Testament, God used the words “living waters” to describe Himself, in…Jeremiah 2:13“For My people have committed two evils: They have forsaken Me, the fountain of living waters, And hewn themselves cisterns—broken cisterns that can hold no water.”  (NKJV)

And throughout scripture, we see God as the potter and us being the clay that He will mold to His liking… Isaiah 64:8…&…Jeremiah 18:1-6

God, back in Jeremiah, speaks of non-believers as broken cisterns that can hold no water.”  The apostle Paul calls believers “earthen vessels”, which have the treasure of everlasting life stored in them…

2 Corinthians 4:7 But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellence of the power may be of God and not of us.  (NKJV)

Today, to illustrate the level of spiritual maturity (or lack of it) that each human possesses…I want to use a clay pot as a vessel to represent our body; and living wateras the Holy Spirit residing with-in us, if we are a Christian…

I have been writing about the need for the Christian to be being filled with the Holy Spirit for quite some time now… Jesus tells us in…John 7:38…above, that believers should have rivers of living water flowing out of their heart… In my mind, this word picture of rivers of living water indicates that the Christian should be filled to overflowing with the Holy Spirit, because rivers are moving bodies of water; not lakes, or stagnant ponds with no movement…

I have used the term “filled to overflowing with the Holy Spirit”, before… Indeed…this to me, paints a word picture of the Spirit filled Christian, that can’t help but be bubbling over with these rivers of living waterthat are flowing out of their heart, their mind, their soul, their actions, and their mouth…  It represents a Christian who is “on fire” for the Lord, because they can’t help but spread the good news of the Gospel of Christ (and their own testimony of God’s grace of salvation), to the lost and dying world around them…

Why aren’t all Christians “filled to overflowing” with the Holy Spirit”, like this word picture Jesus paints above; where out of his heart will flow rivers of living water??  This simple answer to that question will be discussed tomorrow; as we see how Satan, sin, and our own flesh will cause either huge cracks in our earthen vessel, leaving us bone dry (Jeremiah 2:13 above)…or how our lack of spiritual growth not developing as it should as a Christian, leaves our level ofliving water less than filled, or even stagnant…as sin, Satan, and/or our own flesh keep us from being filled to overflowing with the Holy Spirit…

Heavenly Father, I pray that Your Word would be used today, to cause every reader to do a self-check on their own level of living water that is present in their own heart… I pray Lord, that if they are not “filled to overflowing” with the Holy Spirit”, that Your Word would point them in Your direction to find out why… I pray that Your Word would cut right to the bone like a two edged sword (Hebrews 4:12), to reveal a need for changes in their life… And Lord, I pray that today’s writing brings You the honor and the glory that You so richly deserve…in Jesus’ most precious name and for His sake…Amen…

Gods group thoughts for 8/15/2012     “A Cracked Clay Vessel from Birth”  (Part 2)

Romans 9:21 Does not the potter have power over the clay, from the same lump to make one vessel for honor and another for dishonor?  (NKJV)

The ultimate state of spiritual maturity, should have the Christian “Filled to Overflowing” with the Holy Spirit… I base this statement on this scripture that I posted yesterday, spoken by Jesus, in…

John 7:38He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.”  (NKJV)

As I mentioned yesterday, scripture is filled with the analogy that God is the potter…and that we are His clay vessels that are both fragile and flawed… We are to be molded by God as He sees fit…if we step back and allow God to conform us into the image of His Son (Romans 8:29)…  All human beings are born as cracked vessels, which are filled with the sins of the world (1 John 2:15-16), with Satan as their father (John 8:44)…

Before a person becomes a Christian in God’s eyes…they have a lifetime of sins and their own self-righteous desires they are filled with, that make them flawed vessels that are both unrighteous in God’s eyes…as well as vessels of wrath… Jesus talks about these sinners headed for eternal destruction, in the following scripture…

Romans 9:22What if God, wanting to show His wrath and to make His power known, endured with much longsuffering the vessels of wrath prepared for destruction,  (NKJV)

We are all born with what is called a natural sin nature…ever since Adam and Eve were deceived by the serpent (Satan), back in the beginning (Genesis 3:1-11…&…Romans 5:12)…  Before we become a Christian, God looks at us as a fragile clay vessel, which has been controlled by Satan all of our lives… We are broken vessels, just like God tells the Israelites back in…

Jeremiah 2:13…  “For My people have committed two evils: They have forsaken Me, the fountain of living waters, And hewn themselves cisterns— broken cisterns that can hold no water.”  (NKJV)

God calls Himself the fountain of living waters in this scripture… And God calls the un-repentant sinners in this scripture above…broken cisterns that can hold no water.”  With what Jesus reveals in…John 7:38…above, and God’s statement about being living water…yesterday I equated the Holy Spirit that God gives to all Christians (John 14:26), asliving water, that will flow out of our heart, filling our sealed vessel…

Without the Holy Spirit residing in the heart, the mind, and the soul of a person (if they are not a Christian)…they are sin filled, un-repentant sinners…that don’t have a drop of living waterto be found with-in their broken clay vessel…

Thank goodness that God is a patient and longsuffering God… I know this to be a fact (just like the scripture above reveals in…Romans 9:22), because I was a cracked and flawed, sin filled clay vessel for almost 52 years…filled with all the worldly sins that the apostle John warns Christians to avoid, in…1 John 2:15-16

I falsely believed I was a Christian all those years, because I was blinded by Satan to the truth that God’s Word reveals…

2 Corinthians 4:4…  whose minds the god of this age has blinded, who do not believe, lest the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine on them.  (NKJV)

Indeed, God drew me to Himself (John 6:44), and by His grace through saving faith alone in Jesus Christ (Ephesians 2:8-9)…my heart was regenerated; and by understanding and obeying the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ…I was graced with the free gift of salvation by God… (See the following attachment, for the presentation of the Gospel of Christ…   http://godsmanforever.com/2015/01/04/the-truth-about-sin-1042015-by-bruce-reposted-from-7112013/   )

A lifetime of sins was paid for by the shed blood of Jesus Christ on the cross…as Christ’s righteousness was imputed into me (2 Corinthians 5:19-21)… God declared me righteous in His sight, and a new Christian… I was promised eternal life in heaven as one of God’s redeemed children, just over 10 years ago… Praise the Lord for His grace and His mercy !!

All of the cracks in my fragile clay vessel, which had been broken and useless for God…had been sealed by Him, as the Holy Spirit filled my “dry as a bone” hardened heart, with rivers of living water…  The Christians previously cracked vessel, when first graced with salvation…is sealed and filled with the Holy Spirit (Ephesians 1:13)

Here is more scripture revealing the fact that the sinner has to understand the truth found in God’s Word, and obey the Gospel of Jesus Christ…to be forgiven of their sins…

Ephesians 1:13In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise, (NKJV)

And here is eye opening scripture written by the apostle Paul, revealing the wrath of God for all those who do not obey  the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ…

2 Thessalonians 1:8-9 in flaming fire taking vengeance on those who do not know God, and on those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. These shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of His power,  (NKJV)

OK; so the Christian is filled with the Holy Spirit at the moment they are saved by God’s free gift of grace…  Why aren’t all Christians “Filled to Overflowing” with the Holy Spirit (living water), like Jesus tells us in…John 7:38… where Jesus says that there will be  rivers of living water, flowing out of the Christian’s heart ??

Heavenly Father, I am so thankful for the truth found in Your Word…  I pray Father, that You would open the eyes of those in need of Your saving grace, as You draw them unto Yourself… I pray Father, that anyone not knowledgeable about the need obey to Gospel of Your Son Jesus Christ for salvation…would not rest, until they speak to someone who can explain this necessary step to becoming one of Your redeemed children…  And I pray Lord, that You would continue to mold all of Your children, to become more “Christ like” as the years roll by… I pray for this progressive sanctification for all of Your children, in Jesus’ most precious name and for His sake…Amen…

Gods group thoughts for 8/16/2012     “Loss of Control” (Part 3)

1 Peter 5:8Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.  (NKJV)

I have spent the last 2 days on a study using my own life experience, and backing it up with God’s Word…to try and figure out why some Christians are “filled to overflowing” with the Holy Spirit; while other Christians never seem to be Spirit filled, as they are commanded to be by the apostle Paul, in…

Ephesians 5:18-20And do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation; but be filled with the Spirit, 19 speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord, 20 giving thanks always for all things to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ,  (NKJV)

Here is scripture spoken by Jesus, giving us His word picture of the Spirit filled Christian, in…

John 7:38He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.”  (NKJV)

The brand new Christian, is filled with the Holy Spirit by God…at the moment they are graced with salvation; after understanding and obeying the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ (see yesterdays writing)… I describe the new Christian as a clay vessel which has been sealed (from the inside) with the Holy Spirit (Ephesians 1:13 )…which God (in Jeremiah 2:13 ) and Jesus (in John 7:38), describe as living water

The most critical time for the new believer (especially if they are in their teens, with all the pier pressure), is right after they are saved by God’s grace…  Satan will do everything he can to keep the new Christian from sharing their faith with anyone else… Satan has lost the battle when the new believer’s chains have been broken by God; but Satan will still do his best to keep them from expanding God’s kingdom, if they share their faith and plant seeds that only God can grow into new Christians…Matthew 13:1-23

Here is the link for Jesus’ “parable of the soils” about how God’s Word (the Gospel of Christ), is spread in different soilshttp://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=mat13:1-23&version=NKJV

To help these new believers, the more mature Christians around them need to step in and disciple them about the importance of spending time in God’s Word…the importance of prayer, including listening to the Lord’s response to their prayer…about finding a Bible believing and teaching church…and all the other steps that are needed for the young Christian to grow in their spiritual knowledge and their love for the Lord…

This spiritual growth for the Christian is called progressive sanctification, which is a life long process; and is best accomplished if the Christian is fed by God’s Word (hopefully daily)…   Jesus tells us about this urgent need, in…

Matthew 4:4But He answered and said, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.’” (NKJV)

Remaining filled with the Holy Spirit is impossible in the Christian’s own strength…  It is the supernatural power that the fullness of the Holy Spirit will give the Christian, that can help the Christian to ward off Satan and their own carnal flesh’s attacks…Galatians 5:16

Christians that are born from above (John 3:3), can never lose their salvation; because the Holy Spirit has sealed them for life…Ephesians 1:13…   But when the Christian continues living in unconfessed sin…they are grieving the Holy Spirit…Ephesians 4:30…   At this point they become unrighteous in God’s eyes; and the sweet fellowship with the Lord is broken, and will remain so…until any and all sins are confessed, repented of, and turned from…1 John 1:9

Sins that are caused by our own weak flesh, and Satan with his temptations to sin, will produce small cracks at first, in a Christian’s otherwise perfect vessel; right after being sealed with the Holy Spirit… As un-repented sins (from believing Satan’s deceiving lies), pile up in the life of the new (or any) Christian…there will be larger and larger cracks in their once perfect vessel…  And as the sins of the flesh (which are internal) continue to override the leading of the Holy Spirit…control will be transferred from the Holy Spirit, back into the hands of the sinning Christian…

The control of the Christian by the Holy Spirit will decrease over time, as Satan and/or the Christian’s own flesh continue to dominate their lives… The cracks in their clay vessel will get larger, and the level of living water will decrease… (Note that this is not a loss of the Holy Spirit (Hebrews 13:5-6)… It is a decrease in the level of control that the Holy Spirit has over the Christian’s life)…

Even the absolute best Christians (in their own minds), that say thy don’t have any real bad sins…will see their level of living water stagnate and even evaporate, as un-confessed small sins and their own flesh take possession of their vessel…

Even confessing and repenting of sins, to again refill the Christian with the Holy Spirit (1 John 1:9), won’t have their level of living water stay at the top of their vessel for very long…as large cracks from constant unconfessed sins allow Satan access (along with the flesh), to take back control from the Holy Spirit residing with-in the Christian…

Tomorrow, I will quote scripture God gives us, and my own testimony…to share how Satan can be stopped dead in his tracks… We can , as God’s children, be filled to overflowing with the Holy Spirit; with godly lives that will allow God to shower His obedient children with a supernatural peace (Philippians 4:6-7), and an abundance of joy (John 16:24)…that has to be experienced to be believed…

Heavenly Father, I pray that You will ignite a fire in the belly of all of Your redeemed children…as You urge them to be being conformed into the image of Your Son…  I pray Lord, that rivers of living water will start to freely flow out of the hearts of all of Your children…as You take total through their obedience to the Holy Spirit… I pray for this progressive sanctification in the lives of all of Your children, in Jesus’ most precious name and for His sake…Amen…

Gods group thoughts for 8/17/2012    “There is Protection from Satan”  (Part 4)

1 Timothy 4:6If you instruct the brethren in these things, you will be a good minister of Jesus Christ, nourished in the words of faith and of the good doctrine which you have carefully followed.  (NKJV)

I always feel good about the writing I will be doing for the day, when my inspiration comes from scripture that speaks to me in my daily Q/T (quiet time) reading in the Bible… I have spent the last 3 days in a study I am led to write, about why some Christians are “filled to overflowing” with the Holy Spirit…and why some Christians never seem to reach this point of spiritual maturity in their lives…  These Spirit filled Christians can’t help but share the gospel of Christ with those around them… They absolutely know with 100% certainty, that they are heaven bound when they die (1 John 5:13); and the Holy Spirit urges them with a firm hand, to share this “good news” of the gospel and/or their own testimony of salvation to those in need at the appropriate time…

This opening scripture describes both me, through the full power of the Holy Spirit, and what I am trying to accomplish with this study on being filled with the Holy Spirit…  If it seems like I am boasting here, as I write…I am !!  But just like the apostle Paul, I must make it clear that my boasting is in the Lord Jesus Christ; and not in my own meager self (Galatians 6:14)… Praise the Lord !!   And may this study bring Him all of the honor and the glory He so richly deserves; as Christ and His power through the filling of the Holy Spirit is exemplified through me and my learning experiences…

In a quick update…I am using a word picture by calling our body a fragile, cracked and flawed vessel…which at the time we are graced with salvation by God, and declared a Christian in His eyes…is filled to the rim with the Holy Spirit… I am calling the Holy Spirit living water, as scripture reveals in…Jeremiah 2:13…&…John 7:38)… The reason I believe that a Christian will not be “filled to overflowing” with the Holy Spirit…is because Satan, and/or our own flesh, contributes to the cracks in our vessel; which prevents our level of living water from building up to the point where we start overflowing with the love of the Lord… Look at…John 7:38…for Jesus’ word picture of this abundance of “living water” that all Christians should possess…

The Christian is sealed and filled with the Holy Spirit at the moment of salvation (Ephesians 1:13)… But the attacks that Satan will constantly try and make on our fragile, perfect clay vessel (just after we are saved by God’s grace), will eventually lead to cracks that allow Satan back into our lives… Yesterday, I told you I would give you my secret of how I have been able to successfully fend off Satan’s attacks…  Does Satan still try and temp me to sin ??  Absolutely !!  But God’s Word is true !!

The apostle Paul reveals God’s way of protecting His children from Satan’s attacks, in…Ephesians 6:10-20…  Some may be tired of seeing me write about “The Whole Armor of God” which Paul describes in some detail in this scripture…  Here is the link for this potentially life changing scripture on God’s protective armor… http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=eph6:10-20&version=NKJV

But unless you are “filled to overflowing” with the Holy Spirit, you are allowing sin via Satan, to enter your vessel through cracks in it’s fragile wall…or your flesh is winning the battle over the Holy Spirit (Galatians 5:17)… Either way, I have proven with my own frailty and failures…that the Holy Spirit’s total control can be taken completely away!!  I was a victim of this sad state of self-control for some years, following my glorious salvation just over 10 years ago…  I am reminded of a rather long sermon by the REV. C. H. Spurgeon, preached back in 1859…  His sermon was titled… “Grieving the Holy Spirit”… I pray it will be read by all of today’s readers for its powerful message of both gloom, and ultimate hope that is filled with joy and godly peace…        http://www.spurgeon.org/sermons/0278.htm

When we grieve the Holy Spirit, it is because sin, or our own flesh…seems more important at that moment in time, than the leading of the Holy Spirit…given by God as a lifelong Helper to all new Christians (John 14:26)… There are many reasons for the sin that enters the lives of all of us…including Christians… Those without the supernatural protection and power the Holy Spirit brings into the life of the Christian, will have ABSOLUTELY NO CHANCE  to defend themselves against the deceptive lies and lust filled temptations that Satan will use to attack and control all humans…

And without systematically putting on God’s Whole set of spiritual armor…Christians will never be free from being penetrated by Satan’s attacks…  It took me some time to learn about, and to put on ALL  of God’s spiritual armor… But Christians must also be aware of attacks from their own flesh… As I have stated numerous times…somehow, slowly over a period of time…I took back control from the Holy Spirit…  My joy and the supernatural peace I so often write about, were gone…

It wasn’t until I got down on my knees and prayed to the Lord to bring back my peace and joy, as I again gave total control back to the Holy Spirit… That was just over 3 years ago, and all I can do is humbly praise God for His continuous peace in my life; even through the burial of my 39 year old niece Jennifer, who passed away just over 2 years ago…

I urge all readers to check out “The Whole Armor of God” link above; and read the sermon about “Grieving the Holy Spirit”, preached by the noted preacher, the REV. C. H. Spurgeon in the link above…  I hope to expound on God’s protective spiritual armor tomorrow…God willing…

Heavenly Father, I thank You and praise You for the blessings that You so abundantly shower on my life… I pray Lord, that readers are urged by You, to learn all they can about the spiritual armor You provide for all of Your children to wear, for total protection from the evil one (Ephesians 6:11)… And Lord…I pray for Your richest blessings for all of Your children who are living in Your will and Your ways…in Jesus’ most precious name and for His sake…Amen…

Gods group thoughts for 8/18/2012    “It Takes a Full Set of Armor” (Part 5)

Ephesians 6:11Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.  (NKJV)

My writing for the past 4 days, has been leading up to explaining how a Christian can become “filled to overflowing” with the Holy Spirit… I have used the following scripture that Jesus uses (and God in…Jeremiah 2:13), to paint a word picture, that the Holy Spirit is like a fountain of living water that should be filling the Christian (pictured as a fragile clay vessel), to overflowing with living water…

Jesus tells us, in…John 7:38“He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.”  (NKJV)   Jesus speaks of rivers of living water flowing from the Christian’s heart…  Jesus’ word picture to memeans that the Holy Spirit should be so full and expanding like raging rivers with-in the Christian…that He should fill their fragile clay vessel (sealed with the Holy Spirit…Ephesians 1:13) to overflowing with living water

Jesus uses another word picture in speaking about how the Holy Spirit should not be kept bottled with-in the Christian; but that He should be a visible light to those around them, in…Matthew 5:16Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.  (NKJV)

Christians are called to be beacons of light, which will be visible to those around them in need of help and hope…

The Christian’s fragile clay vessel will become cracked with flaws, inflicted by Satan’s battering temptations to sin… These cracks will allow Satan back into the life of the once perfect clay vessel the Christian had, at that moment in time when they were filled with, and sealed with the Holy Spirit at the moment of salvation…

The opening scripture reveals God’s promise that His spiritual suit of protective armor, if put on and worn in its entirety…will protect the Christian from the crushing attacks of Satan’s temptations to sin… It takes time for the Christian to understand and to put on piece by piece, all 6 pieces of God’s spiritual armor…

Here is the link for the apostle Paul’s writing about this spiritual armor… Paul was in a Roman prison cell with Roman guards, when he wrote the Book of Ephesians; and probably used the Roman guards armor, to represent the 6 pieces of spiritual armor the Christian must put on, to be set for battle against Satan…    http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=eph6:10-20&version=NKJV

This spiritual armor that God provides, is a list of 6 things that are needed for the Christian to remain strong in the Lord; as the Holy Spirit flourishes with total power with-in the Christian… The sword of the Spirit, although it is not first listed, or considered to be the most important piece of spiritual armor…is the only offensive piece of armor in the battle against Satan… Paul uses a Roman soldier’s sword, as a word picture to represent the Bible…God’s inerrant Word…Ephesians 6:17

All of the other 5 pieces of spiritual armor are based upon the Christian opening, reading, and digesting the Word of God, and are found in their Bible… I contend that any Christian, who does not spend any time reading God’s Word, will in no way be able to defend themselves against Satan’s temptations… And without protection from Satan’s attacks…the cracks in their fragile clay vessel will get wider…sins will accumulate…and the level of control the Holy Spirit will have over the Christian’s life (the living water with-in them), will either leak out or evaporate over time…

This will leave either stagnant living water, or total loss of control by the Holy Spirit… Please note that this is not a loss of the Holy Spirit (Hebrews 13:5-6)… He is always there in full force… But the Holy Spirit will step out of the way, and let a Christian who does not listen to His urgent warnings, go ahead and sin… This grieving of the Holy Spirit (Ephesians 4:30), without confessing and repenting of these sins (1 John 1:9), will decrease the level of control that the Holy Spirit has over the Christian’s life…and separate the Christian from fellowship with the Lord…

A constant feeding from reading and applying God’s Word to the Christian’s life, is necessary to nourish their very soul with spiritual wisdom and knowledge… Jesus tells us this, in…Matthew 4:4But He answered and said, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.’ ” (NKJV)  …The Bible must be read and digested, to systematically put on God’s full set of spiritual armor, for total protection from Satan…

My Lil Sis Sharon has a 3 book set written exclusively on “The Whole Armor of God”…  My hope is to give you a quick understanding of what God reveals through His Word, to systematically put on the whole set of spiritual armor for total protection from Satan…

Heavenly Father, I for one am ever so thankful for Your total protection from Satan, that You promise for all of Your children who are completely armor clad… I pray Lord, that the truth from Your Word would stir the hearts and lives of those that need this total protection from the enemy… I pray Lord, that all of Your children would start by arming themselves with the sword of the Spirit…and from the Word of God they would then put on the rest of Your armor for protection from the evil one…  I pray for this condition of absolute peace and godly obedience for all of Your children…in Jesus’ most precious name and for His sake…Amen…

Gods group thoughts for 8/19/2012     “The Shield of Faith” (Part 6)

Ephesians 6:16above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one.  (NKJV)

I am continuing on in this study as to why some Christians (that I am calling fragile clay vessels) are “filled to overflowing” with the Holy Spirit (living water); while other Christians don’t exhibit hardly any, or no light at all…like Jesus tells us that all Christians should be emitting, in…Matthew 5:16

Wearing all 6 pieces of spiritual armor that the apostle Paul writes about in…Ephesians 6:10-20…is 100% mandatory , for the Christian to be so filled with the Holy Spirit, that they become overflowing with living water that will pour over the edge of their filled clay vessel…

Yesterday, I wrote about the “sword of the Spirit”, which is the Word of God (the Bible), as recorded in…Ephesians 6:17… It is the only offensive piece of armor God provides for His children to put on, to fend off Satan’s attacks…  And the Word of God is where the un-repentant sinner learns the truth about the need to obey the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ, before God will grace them through faith alone in Jesus Christ, with the free gift of salvation (Ephesians 2:8-9)…

The apostle Paul reveals in the opening scripture, that “the shield of faith is the most important part of God’s armor, for protection from Satan… We know from…Ephesians 6:10…that Paul is writing to Christians, because he addresses them as “my brethren” It is made clear in the Bible, that brethren are fellow brothers and sisters in Christ (Matthew 12:50)… A person has to become a Christian in God’s eyes, before they can even begin to be protected by God from Satan and his temptations…

The only way un-repentant sinners can please God to become a Christian to begin with; and then to remain pleasing in God’s eyes…is to have absolute faith in Him…Hebrews 11:6But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.  (NKJV)

And once a person becomes a Christian, this faith must be absolutely unwavering; or Satan will hit his mark with the fiery darts he will constantly use on every living human being… The unsaved, un-repentant sinner, will have absolutely no chance to escape Satan’s arsenal of weapons, which will keep the sinner in bondage, until God breaks these chains of sin and shame with His gift of grace through salvation…

I have written before, about this young woman I met a few months ago, who has lost her faith in God; and now she considers herself to be an agnostic… If the sinning person doesn’t have saving faith, that is based solely on the sound doctrine of obeying the gospel of Jesus Christ; or if the saving faith of the Christian falters, and their protective shield of faithis set aside…both will be tossed about by the deceit and lies of Satan, and men who are not grounded by the truth found only in God’s Word…

The Apostle Paul wrote the Book of Ephesians, as a letter to warn the believers in the church at Ephesus about the false prophets who were trying to preach a different gospel with false doctrines… This is why he wrote to the believers, explaining how to protect themselves with God’s spiritual armor, as recorded in…Ephesians 6:10-20…  We also see Paul warning them about these false doctrines that were being preached, when he penned this, in…

Ephesians 14-15that we should no longer be children, tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, in the cunning craftiness of deceitful plotting, 15 but, speaking the truth in love, may grow up in all things into Him who is the head—Christ—  (NKJV)

So we see that faith is needed in order to first become a Christian in God’s eyes… And then this saving faith must be continuous, as a permanent shield that God avails for the Christian to carry… But this is only 1 of the 6 pieces of God’s full set of spiritual armor that must be worn, in order to be completely protected from Satan’s attacks…

I will continue on tomorrow with the belt of truth, and the “breastplate of righteousness”; which are 2 more pieces of spiritual armor God provides for the Christian to put on (Ephesians 6:14)… Here is the link for the entire list of the 6 pieces of spiritual armor, as written about by the apostle Paul… http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=eph6:10-20&version=NKJV

Heavenly Father, I pray that anyone reading this Word today, who is suffering from any kind of sin that Satan has inflicted…will be urged by You to read this entire study on how You can completely protect them from sin caused by Satan…James 4:7Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.  (NKJV)   …I thank You and praise You Lord, that my life confirms this truth that we see from You, that was written by Your servant James…  I pray Lord, that this writing brings You the honor and the glory that You so richly deserve… I pray for eyes to be opened by You Lord, in Jesus’ most precious name and for His sake…Amen…

Gods group thoughts for 8/20/2012   “The Truth to a Righteous Life”  (Part 7)

2 Timothy 1:13-14 Hold fast the pattern of sound words which you have heard from me, in faith and love which are in Christ Jesus. 14 That good thing which was committed to you, keep by the Holy Spirit who dwells in us.  (NKJV)

The opening scripture has the apostle Paul writing to his young protégé Timothy, giving him some final instructions from Paul’s prison cell in Rome… This was 5 or 6 years after Paul’s first imprisonment there, where he wrote what are called the prison epistles; the Books of Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians, and Philemon…

Paul knew his days of living were numbered; and he penned some of his most important writing in this last Book he wrote, which has been titled…2 Timothy…  The apostle Paul was crucified by Nero in approximately A.D. 66-67…

I have spent some days writing my thoughts on why some Christians are “filled to overflowing” with the Holy Spirit (living water)…and why some Christians living water appears to be stagnant, or dried up…  Put another way…some Christians are glowing brightly with the light of Christ with-in them; and some Christians are showing little or no light at all…

Jesus said that all Christians should be emitting light, in…Matthew 5:16… The answer to this drastic difference in Christians (presented with biblical scripture), depends to a great extent, as to how much spiritual armor the Christian is clad with; to protect themselves (their fragile clay vessel) from Satan’s attacks of temptation, sin, and shame…

Wearing all 6 pieces of spiritual armor, which the apostle Paul writes about in…Ephesians 6:10-20…is 100% mandatory , for the Christian to be so filled with the Holy Spirit, that they start overflowing with living water that will pour over the edge of their filled clay vessel… Jesus describes this living water as…rivers of living water, which will flow out of the heart of the believer, in…John 7:38

As Satan and our own flesh take over more and more control, the level of our living water will be compressed… Our Holy Spirit (who has been trying to urge us to do the right thing), will be grieved by our sinning…Ephesians 4:30…and maybe even quenched…1 Thessalonians 5:19  Thank goodness, that as Christians we will never lose the Holy Spirit… These word pictures I am using, would paint a more complete picture, if the reader clicks on the following link to read the first part of this study…     https://godsmanforever.wordpress.com/wp-admin/post.php?post=343&action=edit

Here is a link to more information about grieving and quenching the Holy Spirit, from gotquestions.org http://www.gotquestions.org/grieve-quench-Holy-Spirit.html

I have already written yesterday about the first 2 of these 6 pieces of spiritual armor God gives Christians to put on; the sword of the Spirit (the Word of God), and the shield of faith Paul mentions both of these in the opening scripture, along with That good thing which Timothy already had; the Holy Spirit given to him (and all Christians) at the moment of salvation…

Before a sinner becomes a Christian in God’s eyes, they must understand with saving faith, the truth from God’s Word; and this truthis that they must obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ, as they seek Jesus Christ with a repentant heart, and godly sorrow to become their personal Lord and Savior…

People that believe their sins will be forgiven by any works they do for the Lord, will be turned away at the gates of heaven when they die, when it is to late… Jesus warns us about this false belief being taught in churches today, with this eye opening scripture recorded in…Matthew 7:21-23… Here is the link http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=mat7:21-23&version=NKJV

This brings me to the next 2 pieces of God’s spiritual armor, as written in…Ephesians 6:14Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness,  (NKJV)

The Christian must be continuously fed by hearing and reading  about the truth from God’s Word… Jesus tells us this, in…Matthew 4:4 But He answered and said, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.’ ” (NKJV)  …This belt of truth, is spiritual armor that will help keep the Christian strong, and growing in their spiritual knowledge and wisdom of the Lord…

And “the breastplate of righteousness must also be put on every day by the Christian, to protect their heart and other vital organs from Satan’s attacks…  When the Christian sins, they become unrighteous in God’s eyes…  The only way to be in alignment again with the Lord, and to regain sweet fellowship with Him…is to confess and repent of any and all sins…1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.  (NKJV)

The apostle Paul tells the Ephesians, that they must be controlled by the Holy Spirit (be filled with the Spirit), in…Ephesians 5:18-20… The Christian will be filled with the Spirit again, after confessing and repenting of their sins…  But how many times a day are we sinning ??  This is where the “Whole Armor of God” will stop Satan’s temptations from penetrating our fragile clay vessel

And as long as we remain humble, by submitting our own flesh to be totally controlled by the Holy Spirit…the rivers of living water flowing out of our heart, should have us “filled to overflowing” with the Holy Spirit… The love of Christ should then light up our Christian lives like a giant Christmas tree !!

Heavenly Father, I pray that You would urge all of Your children who are “less than Spirit filled”, to look at what they may be missing in the way of spiritual armor, or even chinks in their armor; which will allow penetration by the fiery darts that Satan will constantly be firing at us… Ephesians 6:16…

I pray Lord, that all of Your children would seek to put on Your complete set of spiritual armor…and that their lives would be filled with the supernatural peace and the abundance of joy that You will give to all of Your obedient children… I pray for this complete spiritual protection You want all of Your children…in Jesus’ most precious name and for His sake…Amen…

Gods group thoughts for 8/21/2012  “The Right Stuff”  (Part 8)

2 Timothy 2:3-4 You therefore must endure hardship as a good soldier of Jesus Christ. No one engaged in warfare entangles himself with the affairs of this life, that he may please him who enlisted him as a soldier.  (NKJV)

The apostle Paul is writing to his young protégé Timothy in the opening scripture, to help strengthen him is his spiritual battle to remain strong, as a soldier of the Lord…  Indeed, all Christians should be living lives that will please our Father in heaven… But Christians will only be pleasing to the Lord, when they are living righteously in His sight… As long as Satan and our own flesh continues to cause Christians to sin…life will be a constant up and down battle…  With constant sin in our lives, at best, Christians will be Spirit filled for only a short while, after they confess and repent of their sins… The apostle John reveals in this hallmark scripture that all Christians should know, and be practicing as needed when they sin…

1 John 1:9If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.  (NKJV)

I started a study some days ago, to help all Christians understand the truth God reveals in His inerrant Word; that Christians can protect themselves from Satan’s attacks, and have Satan looking for an easier victim…James 4:7Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.  (NKJV)

The apostle Paul gives us a list of spiritual armor that God provides for Christians to put on…to be able to stand up against Satan’s attacks…Ephesians 6:11Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.  (NKJV)

I started this study with a writing I titled…“Filled to Overflowing”…to explain why some Christians have rivers of living water flowing out of them…and why other Christians don’t… This is a “word picture” Jesus uses for the believer living to please the Lord, as Jesus reveals in… John 7:38“He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.”  (NKJV)

I have used my own word pictures, like calling ourselves fragile clay vessels; and the fact that Satan will eventually crack and penetrate our clay vessels, causing us to sin… And I have already written about 4 of the 6 pieces of spiritual armor the apostle Paul writes about in…Ephesians 6:10-20… Here is the link for this entire scripture…  http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=eph6:10-20&version=NKJV

A little further on, past the opening scripture…Paul tells Timothy this, in…2 Timothy 2:7Consider what I say, and may the Lord give you understanding in all things.  (NKJV)   When we are considering something, or when we are trying to understand something…we are using our mind… We think with our brain, which is in our head…

The next to last piece of the 6 piece set of spiritual armor God gives Christians to put on, is…the helmet of salvation, listed in…Ephesians 6:17… Before a sinner becomes a Christian, Satan is free to fill our minds with deceptive lies and temptations that we will not always be able to steer clear of… Sure God gives all humans a good conscience at birth, which will help us pass by the easy temptations Satan will try to ensnare us with… But the sins of the world that always seem fun, or enjoyable, or right, in our own eyes…will keep us in bondage, when Satan is our father (John 8:44)…

It’s only after the sinner understands and obeys the gospel of Jesus Christ, and receives salvation by God’s grace through faith alone in Christ (Ephesians 2:8-9)…that they become Christians in God’s eyes… The Christian is given the Holy Spirit as a lifelong Helper at the moment they are graced by God with salvation (John 14:26)… The Lord is to be first in the life of the Christian, from that point on… God wants the Christian to turn from sin, and allow the Holy Spirit to remain in total control of the new Christian’s heart, mind, and soul…

But alas…if we take our minds off of the Lord, and make sinful choices…believing our own feeble minds that we know better than God, we will be sinning…as we grieve the Holy Spirit (Ephesians 4:30)…and possibly quench the Holy Spirit (1 Thessalonians 5:19)…

Notice what Paul writes to Timothy in the scripture above…“may the Lord give you understanding in all things.”  This is why we as feeble Christians, must put on our “helmet of salvation” every day…  We must keep Christ first in our lives…and we must always listen to the wise instructions the Holy Spirit will give us, to guide us past Satan’s temptations…  If we fail to put on this piece of spiritual armor…Satan will fill our helpless brains with his deceptive thoughts, which will always be wrong…and through the cracks in the wall of our clay vessel, we will be hit by Satan’s fiery darts

God’s Word is true… If we wear “The Whole Armor of God”, All of the time…it is  possible to stop Satan dead in his tracks (Ephesians 6:11…&…James 4:7)… But we must totally submit our lives to the Lord…remain humble to the leading of the Holy Spirit…and always seek forgiveness, right after we sin…to be made righteous again in God’s eyes…1 John 1:9

In closing for today, I am reminded of scripture written by the wise Solomon (1 Kings 3:11-15), who wrote ½ of the Book of Proverbs…Proverbs 3:5-6Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.  (NKJV)

Heavenly Father, I pray that Your Word cuts right to the bone of those in need of Your protection (Hebrews 4:12-13)… I pray Lord, that all readers would investigate Your 6 pieces of spiritual armor You want Your children to put on, for protection from the evil one… And Lord, I pray that Your children would systematically put on “The Whole Armor of God”; and then by totally submitting their lives to the leading of the Holy Spirit, they to would be “filled to overflowing” with the rivers of living waterthat You tell us should be flowing from our hearts… I pray that this abundance of Your love, and the shining light that You are, would become obvious in all of Your children…in Jesus’ most precious name and for His sake…Amen…

Gods group thoughts for 8/22/2012      “Work it Out Yourself”  (Part 9)

2 Timothy 3:17that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.  (NKJV)

It’s only fitting that I chose this opening verse, for the day I write about the last and final of the 6 pieces of God’s spiritual armor (Ephesians 6:10-20)… God’s Word (the sword of the Spirit), is where this help from the Lord starts (Ephesians 6:17)…  And with all 6 pieces of God’s spiritual armor firmly in place, the man of God will be thoroughly equipped with everything he needs to live a life that can be virtually free from Satan’s penetrating fiery darts…  This is a pretty bold statement, but I am living proof that God’s Word is true… But my boldness is in Jesus Christ, with the full power of the Holy Spirit at work; not my own weak flesh…

Ephesians 6:11Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to standagainst the wiles of the devil.  (NKJV)

The last and most difficult piece (in my humble opinion) of God’s armor that the Christian must put on to be thoroughly equipped…is found in…Ephesians 6:15and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace;  (NKJV)

I have read other writers thoughts on this scripture say, that if we shod our feet with a complete understanding of the Gospel of Christ…we will then be able to share our own testimony and/or the Gospel of Christ to those around us in need… But because of my own life experience, I believe that this last piece of armor, the preparation of the gospel of peace, is an internal piece of armor (not external), to keep our own flesh from taking back control from the Holy Spirit…

In the 7 years and 2 days from the day I was graced with salvation…I only shared the Gospel of Christ with 2 people… This is because I had somehow taken back control from the Holy Spirit; and in my own flesh, I had no boldness or help without being filled with the Spirit…  Not only this…my peace and my joy were gone…  I believe the gospel of peacearmor, to control our flesh, is what is needed to have the absolute peace God will only give to the Spirit filled Christian (Philippians 4:6-7)… On June 4th, 2009…I got down on my knees and prayed to the Lord to give me back the peace and the joy that I had originally possessed… I once again totally submitted my life to the Lord, and was immediately filled with the Holy Spirit…

For me, this was proof…that even when I was wearing 5 of the 6 pieces of spiritual armor that was indeed keeping Satan at bay…my own flesh was much more powerful in taking control away from the Holy Spirit…

When we are wearing all 6 pieces of God’s armor…we will be completely protected (for the most part) from both Satan’s attacks, and our own flesh…  The apostle James reveals this in…James 4:7Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.  (NKJV)

We will be filled with the Holy Spirit, if we humbly…submit to God…on a more or less continuous basis… We will still stumble an fall occasionally… But with confession and repentance of any sin (1 John 1:9), we will be again filled with the Holy Spirit…   And if we are wearing the “Whole Armor of God”…we will be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.”

From my previous writing, I repeat what Jesus tells us, in…John 7:38“He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.”  (NKJV)

Without Satan penetrating our fragile clay vessel (because it is protected by the “Whole Armor of God”)…and if our own flesh is guarded by the gospel of peacearmor…the rivers of living waterJesus speaks of, will continue to expand with-in our clay vessel, until they can do nothing else but overflow from our lives…

This is my word picture analysis of my own observations about the Holy Spirit with-in me… The apostle Paul tells us this, inPhilippians 2:12…  Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling;  (NKJV)  This is the way I have worked out my own salvation…and how I have been able to become “filled to overflowing with the Holy Spirit”… Praise the Lord, and may He be glorified by His mighty power working in me !!

Heavenly Father, I pray my personal life story of my putting on Your complete set of spiritual armor, including my final submission of my life to You…will not only bring You the honor and the glory You so richly deserve…I pray that it will encourage all Christians to seek and to put on their own spiritual protection…to allow themselves to become “filled to overflowing with the Holy Spirit”… I pray for this super, Spirit filled condition of joy and absolute peace (Philippians 4:6-7) for all of our lives, in Jesus’ most precious name and for His sake…Amen…

Gods group thoughts for 8/23/2012    “Free Yourself from Satan’s Chains with the Truth” (Part 10, and finish of study)

2 Timothy 3:2Preach the word! Be ready in season and out of season. Convince, rebuke, exhort, with all longsuffering and teaching.  (NKJV)

The apostle Paul was writing to his young protégé Timothy, in the opening scripture… His instructions should be understood and practiced by all Christians; even though most of us will never be teachers or preachers of the Word… But I can attest with my personal life experiences, that without the help of the Holy Spirit, it will be extremely hard to share our own testimony, and/or the gospel of Jesus Christ to those around us in need of hearing how the love of Christ can change their lives…

As I wind up my study on how Christians can become “filled to overflowing” with the Holy Spirit, if you have been following along, you can see that I firmly believe that the “Whole Armor of God” must be worn without any kinks or missing pieces… Paul writes about this protective spiritual armor, that God gives to Christians to put on piece by piece, to be protected from Satan’s attacks; and for me…help in controlling my fleshEphesians 6:10-20…  Here is the link for Paul’s complete writing on God’s spiritual armor…   http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=eph6:10-20&version=NKJV

The apostle Paul talks about prayer, in his writing about God’s armor… I have seen another writer call prayer, the lubricant to keep the Christian’s armor well oiled for good service…  I choose to call prayer the glue that will keep all of God’s armor firmly in place… But without a full set of all 6 pieces of armor protecting the Christians entire body, Satan will surely find the Christians kill zone…  Satan will choose and fire an appropriate weapon, causing sin and shame to devastate a Christian’s walk with the Lord…

Yesterday I wrote about how the preparation of the gospel of peace, that Paul tells the Christian to shod their feet with, in…Ephesians 6:15…,   This was for me personally, internal armor to help keep my own flesh from taking back control from the Holy Spirit… I believe this is always the last and hardest piece of spiritual armor we must put on… And as I said yesterday, our flesh can totally overpower the Holy Spirit…minimizing any relief from Satan’s attacks that wearing all of the other 5 pieces of armor have produced…

Once Satan’s attacks are totally deflected by wearing 5 of the 6 pieces of God’s armor…and the Christian totally submits to God with what I believe is the 6th and last piece of God’s armor…all this preparationwill finally result in little to no backsliding by the Christian… They will finally be walking with the Lord, with feet shod by God’s total protection; and this will provide the beginning of the overflow of the “living water” pouring out of the Spirit filled Christian’s heart

God tells us Himself, that He isthe fountain of living waters, in…Jeremiah 2:13

If you put 2 and 2 together…these rivers of living water that Jesus says will be flowing out of the Christians heart, is the Holy Spirit…  And if Satan can’t penetrate our armor…and we remain submitted to the leading of the Holy Spirit…there will be no place with-in the Christian, for these rivers of living water to remain bottled up… We will then be “filled to overflowing with the Holy Spirit…

Is it easy to become completely clad with God’s protective armor ?? Can it be put on all at one time?? The answer to these questions is “absolutely not !!” And for me personally, being able to finally submit to God (except for the hopefully occasional sin that my flesh will cause), after over 7 years of salvation…was the hardest piece of armor to put on…  Unfortunately our own flesh will never be totally controlled…

But if you want absolute godly peace in your life, that only being Spirit filled will bring…and if you want to say goodbye to fear and anguish, and pain, and hurt, and jealousy…along with all of the other sins the world has been chained to, as revealed in... 1 John 2:15-16…then go back and learn the truth about how“ The Whole armor of God” can absolutely set you free You from Satan’s chains…and most of the attacks from your own fleshly desires…

God’s armor starts out with the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God…Ephesians 6:17… By understanding the truth found in God’s Word, Jesus tells us this, in…John 8:32“And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”  (NKJV)

Heavenly Father, I pray my personal life story of my putting on Your complete set of spiritual armor, including my final submission of my life to You…will not only bring You the honor and the glory You so richly deserve…I pray that it will encourage all Christians to seek and to put on their own spiritual protection…to allow themselves to become “filled to overflowing with the Holy Spirit”… I pray for this supernatural, Spirit filled condition of joy and absolute peace for all of our lives, that goes above and beyond our feeble mortal understanding (Philippians 4:6-7)…in Jesus’ most precious name and for His sake…Amen…
