Read 1 John 3,
Psalm 37

“God Wants to Give You The Desires of Your Heart!”

“And I will give you a new heart with new and

right desires, and will put a new spirit in you. I

will take out your stony heart of sin and give you

a new, obedient heart.” Ezekiel 36:26

One of the key principles of debt counseling is

the necessity to know the difference between

needs and wants. Bankruptcy courts are full of

people who failed to make this distinction, and

millions of others are in bondage to credit card

and other debts that are suffocating and

threatening to overwhelm them.

Many believers know by heart and believe:

“And my God shall supply all your need

according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus”

(Philippians 4:19), but miss out on the exceeding

joy of understanding that God actually delights

in giving us the desires of our new heart.

When we receive Jesus Christ as our Lord

and Savior, we receive a heart transplant by the

power of the Holy Spirit. This new heart is pure,

clean, and debt free, and we no longer have to

worry about our sin debt that was suffocating

and threatening to overwhelm us. Our debt has

been paid in full!

This new heart we receive is the one Ezekiel

was talking about…one filled with new and right

desires. The love of God gives us no choice but

to respond in love and obedience, and to want to

do the things that please Him; and give us the

joy, the peace, the love of others, and the

security that is the true desire of our new hearts.

Only unbelief, disobedience, and self-

centeredness can thwart God’s delight in giving

us the desires of our heart!

Father, by the power of Your Spirit, help me to

understand that You not only want to supply my

needs, but that You delight in granting the

desires of our new hearts when we are abiding

in You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
